AS Papers

AS Papers stands for Associated Students Providing Alternative Publications Equal Resources. Basically it is a resource for students to run their own publications. That sounds nice, students are able to express their opinions  and the school pays the costs involved. No wait, every undergraduate student pays for this program. Even though AS Papers no longer recieves a subsidy directly, it is still recieving money from undergraduate students. It is just under the ASUCD Office of the President now. But is this cost worth it so that students can publish their opinions?  Should students have to pay money so that a few students can write about the evils of Israel and capitalism. Sure, the people who believe that Israelis are the terrorists do have a right to express their opinions, but why should everyone else have to pay for them to do so? Furthermore, even larger companies and organizations are having trouble keeping the print medium alive. If people want to publish their opinions, there are plenty of free blogging services online. The AS Papers is useless to the majority of the student population who are forced to pay for it.
