AS Papers
AS Papers stands for Associated Students Providing Alternative Publications Equal Resources. Basically it is a resource for students to run their own publications. That sounds nice, students are able to express their opinions and the school pays the costs involved. No wait, every undergraduate student pays for this program. Even though AS Papers no longer recieves a subsidy directly, it is still recieving money from undergraduate students. It is just under the ASUCD Office of the President now. But is this cost worth it so that students can publish their opinions? In my personal opinion, I would rather not be paying money so that a few students can write about the evils of Israel and capitalism. Sure, the people who believe that Israelis are the terrorists do have a right to express their opinions, but I do not think everyone else has to pay for them to do so. Furthermore, even larger companies and orgazanizations are having trouble keeping the print medium alive. If people want to publish their opinions, there are plenty of free blogging services online. There is no need to have every student pay to have the opinions of a small minority published.
